In any home, the kitchen is where the heart is–especially during 2020, as we have mostly been staying at home. Here are three great Berkshire kitchen designs that meet our 2020 needs, but which also emphasize light, work-ability, custom kitchen design details, great refrigerators and the much maligned in-kitchen glass pantry.
In this Northwest Connecticut kitchen, the homeowners wanted an updated kitchen experience for a home that underwent a complete interior redesign. We introduced bleached walnut cabinetry, a new Subzero refrigerator and a custom bronze and porcelain light fixture to illuminate the island.
Below, our Connecticut kitchen before the improvements. We improved upon the picture window and enhanced the overall look and feel.
The Subzero refrigerator is seamlessly incorporated using the same bleached walnut as the cabinets. All great kitchens have a wonderful window above workspaces–either above a stove or a sink. We used wildlife-inspired drawer pulls from Martin Pierce, which work well here on the refrigerator as accent pieces.
This more contemporary kitchen below carries some of the same elements: the ample and light-friendly picture window, the horizontal, wood-grain ceramic for the backsplash wall.
The in-kitchen glass pantry adds easy access for important necessities. When not overly crammed, a glass pantry defies glass cabinet naysayers and brings a cozy feel to the kitchen. A pop of gentle yellow brightens the kitchen moment.
With the kitchen below, we had a smaller space to work with, so functionality so we added tall, open shelving to link the dining area. A television with a fish tank screensaver adds some charm.
Beautiful marble countertops from Jay Swift at Bedrock Design, a Subzero refrigerator and a fine Wolf stove make for a welcoming workspace.
Finally, another nod to the in-kitchen glass pantry at our own home.
